Motorways - road lighting

Lighting regulation on motorways includes all the installation of road lighting of the areas with the changing flow of traffic – lighting of road junctions, rest areas, toll areas and tunnel lighting.

The purpose of lighting regulation is two-fold: primarily for adaptation of light intensity at changing traffic flow areas towards an optimal level for the sake of perception of drivers in all situations; secondarily, there is maximum energy saving and protection from luminous pollution.

The propose of motorway/road lighting regulation is to adapt the illuminance/luminance of motor/roadways at night, in accordance with required reliability of perception in all situations, which in reality depends on many parameters of influence, among which the largest are the intensity of traffic and visibility.

             Beside the aforementioned criteria, tunnel lighting fulfills another, more important purpose – it enables the adaptation of human eye adaptation and perception during the day and at sudden change of road lumination to which the human sight is exposed while entering/exiting the tunnel (adaptation zones) and which varies according to parts of the day and year, weather conditions, surroundings at tunnel entrance, speed etc

Voltage stabilization

The purpose of voltage stabilizers in motorway installation is to precondition the mains-net voltage and stabilize it to 230V,50Hz prior to feed-in of the uninteruptable supply system units and the auxiliary supply system in tunnels. Voltage quality and stability are generally not adequate for such demanding facilities, whose reliability and security must not be affected by supply voltage.
